Varadero to Havana- Tropical Cuban beaches

Easygoing starter pack: Varadero to Havana

Varadero, Cuba's most popular beach destination, is famous for its unspoiled powdery white sands and crystal clear waters. If your flight into Varadero arrives in the evening, we don't recommend continuing on to Havana right away. It's about a 3-hour drive from Varadero to Havana and after a long flight from the UK, you probably won't feel up to it. You'll be much more comfortable spending the first night in Varadero at a centrally located hotel near the beach. The following morning, after a good nights' rest you can hop onto the public bus to Havana. The added benefit of travelling by day is that you'll get to see quite a bit of the Cuban countryside during the ride.

If you have an early flight out of the UK and arrive in Varadero early, we can arrange a private transfer into Havana right after your arrival. This way you can spend your very first night in the country's capital on this Varadero to Havana tour. The following morning you'll only have to leave your hotel to explore the bustling streets of the old town and you'll have an entire day to really get to know Havana.

If you want to start your Cuba trip with a few days of rest and relaxation on the beach before travelling on through, have a look at our Varadero tour where you'll get to experience some real Cuba beach life. If you would like to see where you could go after this Cuba trip, take a look at our Cuba trips or suggested Cuban holidays.

Day 1: Arrival in Varadero

When you arrive at the airport in Varadero, we'll make sure that a transfer is ready and waiting to take you to your hotel. It'll take about 30 minutes to reach your hotel from the airport. You'll spend the night in the most charming hotel in the centre of Varadero; a 10-minute stroll away from the beach. The hotel rooms are small and tidy and they each have a fan, shower and toilet. In the evening you can sip on your first Cuba libre or mojito on the patio. All of this is guaranteed to get you into an easy-breezy, Cuban holiday atmosphere on the first day of your Varadero to Havana tour.

Day 2: Varadero to Havana tour

During the second day of your Varadero to Havana trip, you'll travel to Havana by bus in just around 3 hours. The bus leaves at about 11:25, but try to get to the station a little early to buy a ticket for your trip. If you wake up early today, you can visit the local market and stock up on a few snacks for the ride.

The bus station is located in the city centre and is approximately a 20-minute walk from your hotel, when carrying luggage with you. A Coco taxi can take you to the bus station for about CUC 4. This is a yellow scooter shaped like a big coconut that are used like taxis.

Viazul buses are comfortable, on time and have air conditioning (you may want to bring along a pullover for the ride as it can get chilly at times). Seats are not reserved prior to departure. When you reach the bus, you'll hand over your luggage and receive a receipt that you'll have to show in Havana to get your luggage back.
The bus will make a pit-stop along the way so that you can stretch out for a bit or have a bite to eat. Then, as the bus continues, you'll see the Valley of Yumuri scattered with royal palm trees on one side of the bus and the Caribbean Sea on the other. The ride will also take you through the town of Matanzas where you'll catch a glimpse of the many wooden houses - all built before the 1950's - and during the last part of the route, you'll see quite a few nodding donkey pumps. In other words, during the Varadero to Havana tour you can expect to see very diverse Cuban scenery... even on a public bus!

You'll finally pull into the bus station in Havana sometime between 14:00 and 14:30. Your hotel is just a short taxi ride away.

After this module you can choose our Havana Cuba tour or look at our Havana tour for a more luxurious choice of accommodation.
