Abandoned island paradiseCayo las Brujas tourWith the azure blue Caribbean Sea to your right and mangrove forests, pelicans and flamingos to your left, you'll cruise down to the smallest 'inhabited' islands in the Sabana archipelago. Swaying palm trees, soft white powder-sand beaches and the radiantly colourful underwater world of Cayo Las Brujas are the fairy-tale like setting of this Cayo Las Brujas tour. Fittingly, this was once the home of two tormented lovers that were forbidden to see each other. They fled to the island and scared away anyone who came close to the island by making ghost sounds. This is how the island got the name Cayo las Brujas, which means 'witch island'. The couple had this small island paradise all to themselves and they lived happily ever after. To this day, the Cayo is a secluded paradise and it still has the same idyllic atmosphere it had so long ago. You're free to plan your days on the island as you wish; do whatever want to do and nothing that you don't want to do. Spend some time relaxing on the beach or read a book that you never got around to reading back home. If you would prefer a more active way to spend the day, go on a catamaran snorkelling trip or go for a drive to one of the deserted beaches on the surrounding cayos. This unique Cuba beach getaway can be planned for the beginning, end or even in the middle of your Cuba holiday. |

Day 1: Arrival Cayo las BrujasToday you'll set out from Trinidad, Santa Clara or Camaguey (if you're coming from the east) to the town of Remedios. This is a great place to stop off for a cup of coffee, lunch or a visit to one of the most beautiful churches in Cuba. Then you'll drive across the causeway (El Pedraplen) until you reach Cayo las Brujas, one of the most beautiful islands in the Sabana Archipelago. This part of the drive is really quite spectacular. It's a lovely drive across a road surrounded by an azure blue sea and mangroves. As you drive along you might catch a glimpse of an eagle, a few pelicans or a flock of striking pink flamingos. |

Day 2: Cayo las BrujasToday is one of those delightful no cares in the world, do whatever you please kind of days on your Cuba holiday. Whether you decide to relax on the beach or by the pool, or would prefer to sit down beneath a palm tree to read a book... just order a cocktail and live it up during this unique Cuba tour. The hotel you'll be staying at has a lovely restaurant, Farralon, with quite an elaborate lunch menu. Savour local cuisine or ask your waiter about the catch of the day. One of the advantages of staying at Cayo las Brujas is that the island is a part of the Sabana archipelago. After lunch you can hop into your car and drive to the surrounding cayos for a bit of sightseeing. If you drive to the eastern side of Cayo Santa Maria for instance you'll find a really beautiful deserted beach. If you would prefer to spend your day a little more actively, there are plenty of excursions and options to choose from. Join a snorkelling catamaran cruise and take a close up and personal look at the colourful world below the surface of the sea. You'll be amazed by the wondrous marine life and tropical fish - such as tarpons and barracudas - that swim by. Be careful though... with all that drifting around on the water's surface, it's easy to get sunburned. That's why we recommend wearing a t-shirt while snorkelling. |
| There are two very special ways you can end this day. One way would be to go on a lovely sunset cruise and enjoy delicious tropical cocktails. Another option would be to spend late afternoon in a jacuzzi overlooking the sea. As you sip on a mojito you can enjoy the warm water and watch as the sky slowly turns red and sun seemingly dips into the sea. This was one of our favourite moments during our Cuba beach trip. Afterwards you can enjoy a sumptuous dinner and a glass of wine at the hotel restaurant. |

Day 3: Cayo las BrujasThis morning there's time for an early morning swim in the pool or in sea before you check out of your room. Naturally you can choose to extend your stay at Cayo las Brujas if you would like to. Then it's time to leave witch island behind you. As you pull away from the island you might even see the ghosts of the lovers who once inhabited the island wave goodbye to you from the boulders next to the hotel. If this is the last stop on your Cuba tour, you'll continue on to Havana today. We recommend spending one night in Santa Clara along the way. This way you won't have to drive far to reach the airport in Havana and you'll have an opportunity to visit Che Guevara's mausoleum (closed on Mondays). If you plan on travelling to western Cuba after these relaxing days by the sea, then you can travel via Santa Clara and stay at an authentic Trinidad Casa with our module Cuba, the Cuban way. If you plan on travelling further east, then you can take the A1 for a traditional Cuba experience on our module: Ranchos of Camaguey. |
Tip!Comfort option on Cayo Santa MariaIf you wouldn't mind a little extra comfort, luxury and pampering... then you can also choose to book our comfort option during your unique Cuba beach stay. You'll stay at a somewhat larger island, Cayo Santa Maria, about 10km away from Cayo las Brujas. During your stay here you'll be surrounded by heavenly beaches. The resort has several different swimming pools, three restaurants that offer cuisine from around the world, several bars, a gym and a sauna. In other words, this resort has everything you could possibly need for a very relaxing Cuba beach getaway. The resort's small pastel-coloured bungalows are scattered throughout a green garden of palm trees. Each bungalow is nicely decorated and has air conditioning, a mini bar, a private bathroom and either a balcony or a terrace. Not only are all meals and local drinks included in our comfort option, but you'll also have complimentary access to most water sports the resort has to offer. So if you ever do feel the need to do something a little more strenuous than relaxing by the pool or on the beach.... water sports await! |
