Havana tour - A stylish ride through Havana

Easygoing starter: Cadillacs and rum bars

You'll experience flair and nostalgia on this Havana tour. As soon as you leave the airport and head for the city, you'll find yourself in enthralling 1950's decor. Havana is a city filled with signs of faded glory, where you could spend days strolling past horse drawn carriages, classic American vintage cars and colonial buildings with flaking paint jobs. Completely in sync with the city's nostalgia, the morning after your arrival you'll go on a Havana tour of the city in a bright red classic American vintage car driven by your English-speaking guide. He'll show you the best the city has to offer. You'll spend two nights in an elegant, colonial hotel where you can get a taste of the luxury this hotel offered its wealthy guests in the 50's. Stroll through the passionate streets of Havana Vieja, light up a cigar and sip on one of Ernest Hemmingway's favourite rum cocktails to celebrate the beginning of your Cuban holiday.

Day 1: Arrival in Havana

Most flights in to Havana arrive in the evening. We'll arrange for a transfer to collect you from the airport and take you to your hotel in the most historic part of the city. Havana's city centre is listed as a cultural world heritage site by UNESCO - because of this, many buildings have been restored or are being restored to their original state. You'll spend the night in an elegant hotel in the most beautiful, lively part of the city... Havana Vieja. The intimate hotel has colonial charm, vaulted ceilings and high-arched doors. Once you've dropped off your luggage and freshened up, your Havana tour can really begin. Take a stroll into the city for your first mojito on one of the city's many terraces. Sit back, relax and take in the sights and sounds of this exuberant city, at the beginning of your Cuba trip. Classic American vintage cars, horse drawn carriages and colonial buildings line the streets and the sounds of salsa drift through the air. Welcome to Cuba!

Hotel Nacional de Cuba

If you would like to make your Havana tour extra special, you can stay at Havana's most famous hotel - Hotel Nacional. Hotel Nacional was once known as the elegant getaway for famous American mobsters and celebrities. The building is quite spectacular; the feeling you get when you enter the building or walk around it is a very unmistakable 'Havana vibe'. The good old days seem to come alive in every part of the hotel. Celebrities such as Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando once strolled through the hotel's lobby and sat down to a drink or two at the hotel bars. Notorious gangsters Lucky Luciano and Frank Costello smoked cigars while reclining in the plush arm chairs on the hotel veranda. The hotel is situated in Vedado, right off the Malecon, Havana's famed seaside boulevard. The hotel has a fabulous garden and overlooks the sea. The hotel swimming pool is the perfect place to cool off and swim a few laps after a long day of sightseeing in the city. Hotel Nacional may be a large hotel, but the hotel's staff give a very warm, intimate and personal welcome.

Day 2: Havana

There's so much to see in Havana that you could literally walk until your feet are blistered, and you still won't be able to see it all. That's why we'll arrange a Havana tour of the city for you in a classic American vintage car for the morning after your arrival in Havana. Our driver and English-speaking guide will take you on a 3-hour tour through various parts of Havana. Aside from the historic city centre, you'll see Miramar - the ambassador's neighbourhood - with its fabulous colonial villas and Plaza de la Revolucion where former President Fidel Castro held his famed speeches. Your guide will tell you more about Havana without bombarding you with dates and facts. You can also ask him any questions that come to mind during the Havana tour. This way you'll get a pretty good impression of the entire city in just a few hours.... without sore feet!

After your Havana tour by car, you'll be dropped off at your hotel around lunchtime so that you can spend the rest of the day in historic Habana Vieja. Roam through the narrow winding streets of the city centre and you'll notice the odd contrast of brightly coloured villas standing next to crumbling buildings. The many plazas, cathedrals and museums will keep you busy for hours. Deciding what you would like to see first isn't easy. At the end of a fun day of sightseeing, you may want to walk over to the bars Bodeguita del Medio or La Floridita, where writer Ernest Hemingway once enjoyed a cocktail or two. Sit back with a mojito, daiquiri or cuba libre and let the rhythm of the salsa get you into a Cuban mood. In the evening, we recommend going to the Casa de la Musica in Miramar to listen to one of the famous salsa bands that come to perform here.

Day 3: Departure - End of your Havana Cadillac tour
