Travelling through Cuba independently by rental car is fun and more adventurous than package bus tours and above all, it's safe. Being able to speak a little Spanish can be an advantage, but it's not absolutely necessary. Driving on your own gives you the freedom to travel at your own pace, wherever you like and the ability to stop off wherever and for how long you want. Once you leave the city, you'll notice how quiet and peaceful the roads are. Since there are very few vehicles in Cuba, there's also very little traffic. You may however see people and animals walking by the roadside and unfortunately you may also encounter a pothole in the asphalt now and then. If you plan on travelling to Maria la Gorda, the Sierra Maestra and/or Baracoa you'll have a few sandy and gravel roads to travel across. It's important to realise that a small, 'bumpy' car such as Hyundai Atos isn't really cut out for this kind of terrain and that you're better off with a car with better shock absorbers. |

We believe in offering you the most comfortable and safe way to drive through Cuba. That's why we match up the type of rental car we offer you with the type of trip you plan on going on. We generally offer a Hyundai Atos for Cuba car hire for those travelling in western Cuba and a Seat Cordoba for those going on longer road trips to the eastern part of the country. There are no American car hire organisations in Cuba, only local Cuba car hire organisations. A car breaking down on the road or damage to your rental car can really ruin your holiday if the car hire organisation you hired the car from doesn't react promptly and offer assistance. That's why we only work together with car hire organisations REX and Via Car Rental. If anything should happen, we know for sure that you'll receive adequate local assistance. |

Unlike in many other travel destinations, there are only a limited number of rental cars available in Cuba. There's especially a limited capacity during holidays in May, during the summer and during the month of December. By partnering with two separate Cuba car hire organisations, we can offer you rental cars for as long as possible. Regardless, we recommend that you book your trip and Cuba car hire as soon as possible. The terms and conditions for car hire through Via Car Rental are slightly different from those of REX. You can choose from the following categories of Cuba car hire rental cars. We don't recommend hopping straight into your rental car after a long flight into Cuba and driving several hours to your accommodation for the night. It's more pleasant and safer to take some time to acclimatise after your flight. Cuban drivers have a very different way of driving than you're accustomed to and traffic laws are different as well. |
